Since our founding, Open Road Driving School has had the opportunity to help countless students acquire foundational skills, develop safe attitudes and achieve their driving goals; whether that's passing the driving test, increasing confidence on the road or gaining new skills behind the wheel. Offering services in the Greater Belfast and North Down area, we provide a wide range of courses to support students from all backgrounds and levels.

FAQ's
What areas do you cover?
We cover Belfast, Greater Belfast and North Down (N'ards, Bangor, Comber) In general using Balmoral, Dill road and N'ards test centres.
What do I need to begin lessons?
You'll need a UK provisional licence or full licence. You will also have to be able to read a number plate from 20 meters, so glasses/contacts if required.
I'm considering a career change, could you help me become a driving instructor?
Get in contact and we can discuss what all's involved in becoming an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) and how we can help you achieve this.
Do you offer preparation for the extended driving test?
We do. Extended tests are done from the Balmoral test center and we can certainly help you prepare for it.
I'm nervous/anxious about driving, will your instructors be patient with me?
Everybody experiences nerves when it comes to learning something new. Our instructors have great experience working with inexperienced and nervous drivers. They will discuss any worries you have and work with you, at your pace, to overcome them. All our vehicles are fitted with dual controls to keep you and other road users safe.
Are your instructors well trained?
Our instructors hold full ADI (approved driving instructor) licence's, issued by the DVA, and will have them displayed in their vehicles.
Do you offer intensive courses?
We will always strive to work around your goals and your time available to achieve these goals. Get in contact and we can work out a plan together.

Paul Scott ADI
Paul started Open Road Driving School 8 years ago and has since helped hundreds of pupils achieve their driving goals. With a patient and professional approach, he'll help you achieve your goals at a pace that suits you.
Paul lives in East Belfast, is married and has two young boys. His interests include Football, Rugby, F1, live music and spending time with the family.
Kyle Kennedy ADI
Kyle joined Open Road Driving School full time in 2018 after working for a while part time as an ADI. Using modern coaching techniques he strives to facilitate your learning, to develop a safe driver in you for life.
Kyle is married and lives in Dundonald. He has two young boys and his hobbies include playing/watching football, hiking and spending time with his family.

Kyle is very good! I have failed my driving previously with different instructors, but Kyle always cheered me up and kept me at ease.
